Sargents is about 33 miles west of Salida and 32 miles east of Gunnison, via US Highway 50. The Sargents area has several very good trail loops. Places to Park and Camp (ranked from lowest to highest quality/amenities)
Agate Cr Trailhead - 12 or so turnouts on the rutted dirt road leading to the Agate Cr Trailhead; several spots have fire rings. The turnoff from US50 is 1.6 miles east of Tomichi Creek Road (2.6 miles east of Sargents) on the south/east side of US50. When driving over Monarch Pass, the turnoff is near the bottom of the hill heading towards Sargents. Easy access to Agate Cr Tr and trails east of Sargents.
Agate Cr Trailhead alternate - 12 or so turnouts on several dirt roads winding among the aspen; several spots have fire rings. The turnoff from US50 is about 100' west of the Agate Cr Trailhead turnoff on the north/west side of US50. Easy access to Agate Cr Tr and trails east of Sargents.
State Land at Daly Gulch - flat area can accommodate 12-15 vehicles. Open area, no trees, near highway. The turnoff from US50 is about .25 mile south of the Tomichi Creek Road turnoff on the west side of US50. Look for the white and green state land sign. The turnoff was recently moved 100' north of its old location to the new location. Easy access to trails north of Sargents, including Pitkin Loop.
Daly Gulch creekside - area along the creek has room for 2-4 vehicles. Drive through the state land, cross the creek, and drive about 1.5 miles up the dirt road. Easy access to trails north of Sargents, including Pitkin Loop.
Marshall Pass Road - turnouts along the road; starting about 5 miles up the road. The turnoff from US50 is about 100' east of Tomichi Creek Trading Post on the south side of US50. Easy access to trails south of Sargents.
Indian Cr Rd - drive up Marshall Pass Rd about 4.2 miles and turn left onto Indian Cr Rd. The road is rocky, but there are a few good spots along the way.
Pinnacle Mine Rd - drive another mile up the Marshall Pass Rd and turn left onto the wide, graded Pinnacle Mine Rd on the left. Drive up the road about .9 mile and turn left onto a short dirt/rocky road into the aspen. There's room for 2 or 3 vehicles and tents. Keep going up the Pinnacle Mine Rd another .9 miles and turn right onto a dirt road. Follow the dirt road looking for turnoffs into the grassy meadows on the right.
Long Branch Station - 2-4 vehicles in the flat area; several more in the trees uphill; several more along the dirt road leading uphill. The turnoff from US50 is 1 mile west of Sargents on the south side of US50. Turn off US50 and drive .1 mile to a 3-way intersection; turn right onto FR780 and drive about 2 miles. Easy access to trails south of Sargents.
Long Branch Meadow - 2-4 vehicles in the meadow where Baldy Lake Tr and Long Branch Tr split. About 1 mile southwest of the Long Branch Station. Easy access to trails south of Sargents.
Snowblind CG - 23 camp spots; fee campground with latrines. The turnoff from US50 is about 1 mile east of Sargents on the north/west side of US50. Drive 8 miles north on Tomichi Creek Road (paved/dirt). Easy access to trails north of Sargents, including Pitkin Loop, Tomichi Pass, and other points north. A short drive south to US50 and then to Sargents provides easy access to trails south of Sargents.
